Product Description

The proposed Capital Gains Tax may not have got off the ground but that was only a very small part of what the Tax Working Group recommended to the Government — many of the other recommendations are being progressed further and these have the potential to have a wide ranging impact on the primary sector.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to keep your primary sector clients appraised of the latest tax issues facing their business and livelihoods.

Please see below for an updated list of topics for this course.

As the single largest industry and earner for New Zealand, any tax changes will have a significant impact on the primary sector businesses.

This seminar will assist participants in understanding the current tax issues facing the primary sector.

The focus of the seminar is on using case studies to highlight the issues that arise in primary sector businesses and working through the options available to mitigate the taxation consequences arising.

Following the recent announcements from the Tax Working Group, the seminar will now focus on:

  • The tax treatments of compensation payments
  • Ring-fencing of residential property losses – impact on farm houses
  • Income earning farm houses – tax issues
  • Payments to family members – new developments and issues
  • Lifestyle Blocks and the bright-line test
  • Tax Working Group – what recommendations are being progressed that impact the primary sector
  • What constitutes retirement under the livestock rules.

The seminar presenters are experienced rural tax practitioners who have drawn from real life situations as inspiration for the case studies making up the seminar.

The seminar will be presented in a Q&A style where the presenters will work through the case studies which highlight the issues and practical solutions to those issues.

The comprehensive course book will contain the “model answers” for the case studies as well as commentary and legislative references.  The course book is designed to be a future reference for attendees.
