Product Description

The Special Trust Adviser role was created in the Trusts Act 2019 and replaces the role formerly known as Advisory Trustee. It is a role with potential that has never been fully maximised in New Zealand.

What is a Special Trust Adviser? How does the role practically work? What opportunities exist for professional advisers in the modern trustscape?

The Special Trust Adviser provides an opportunity for advisers to assist client trust governance without the onerous fiduciary obligations and risks associated with professional trusteeship.

In this practical webinar, Lindsay Pope will unpack the Special Trust Adviser role and share ways this underused role can be integrated into a professional advice setting.

The webinar will highlight:
• Distinctions between Special Trust Adviser and Professional Trustee roles
• Practical ways Special Trust Advisers can strengthen trust governance and planning
• Opportunities for providing Special Trust Adviser services commercially
• Tips for working with Special Trust Advisers

For professional advisers not wishing to take on professional trustee appointments, the Special Trust Adviser role may be a new commercial opportunity for providing guidance and advice to trustees and clients.

Upon satisfactory completion of this activity you will be able to:
• Understand the Special Trust Adviser role
• Identify ways the role can be practically applied to strengthen trust governance
• Recognise opportunities to incorporate the role as part of a modern trust advisory service
